IDITAROD SCHOOL PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS


  1. Look at the southern route map for the 2009 Iditarod
  2. Choose a checkpoint and find out the population (Some checkpoints will not have enough population to support a school)
    • We want to make sure all checkpoints with schools are covered
  3. Locate the email address to a superintendent, principal, or teacher of a school on one of the checkpoint towns
  4. Go to WORD and type a letter of invitation to the school;
  5. You must include the school address and a name if available
  6. SAVE it as FIRST NAME INVITE in your personal folder for a grade
    • LETTER FORMAT - Dear Whatever School,
    • Three paragraphs:
    • *** INTRO: Your invitation will tell your first name, our school name and town
      • BODY: Include that we are doing a collaborate project to find out what kids in Alaska think of when they think of Texas
        • Ask the school/class to participate by sending us via email to mjohnston@bhisd.net these things:
        • Where they are from - town, school, etc.
        • Information about life in their town
        • Their impression of Texas - what they think of...
        • Photos if possible
      • CONCLUSION: Include that you will share your impression of Alaska with them, photos, and that we will be posting their responses on our wikispace
